Antenna is an essential component to establish any wireless communication system. With the developments in VLSI systems and increased induction of small size wireless gadgets for everyday use, the demand for miniature low profile antennas has increased. Developments in technology helped the evolution of UWB technology The release of a bandwidth of 7.5GHz (from 3.1GHz to 10.6GHz) by the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) for ultra wideband (UWB) wireless communications, resulted in UWB rapidly advancing as a technique for high data rate wireless communication technology. As is the case with conventional wireless communication systems, an antenna also plays a very crucial role in UWB systems. However, there are more challenges in designing a UWB antenna than a narrow band one. A suitable UWB antenna should be capable of operating over an ultra wide bandwidth as allocated by the FCC is most important.
