This book presents the findings from a GIS-based comparative geo-economic analysis of the 16 NUTS2 regions of Spain in the context of Europe. The theoretical tools of this analysis, presented in the 1st chapter of this book, are based on a geo-economic gravity type of model in the context of which a series of key regional efficiency indices for Spanish regions are evaluated. The main element of this model is a transport cost function equipped with economies-of-scale parameters. The above analysis is supplemented with a strategic analysis of Spain's main road network in the context of which the geo-economic "attractivity" and a series of geo-economic traffic parameters for the nodes (regional capitals) of the above network are evaluated and compared in the context of Europe.
