We are what we eat , is an adage which is so time tested that it has now become a cliché. In our endeavour to attain sustainable wellness and to retain a long term balance in our psychosomatic profile we require to look no further than our own plate. The contents of our diet are largely governed by our heritage and socio-cultural ethos. Hence, we delve into our historical background and continuously benefit from the wisdom of our ancestors. A delicious taste on its own and a very good accompaniment to most others, a source of good health and longevity and one of the oldest processed foods of man s history, yogurt is a common food item throughout the world. Yogurt is the pearly manna which continues to lead us to good health. A carefully structured questionnaire was self-administered to the urban Indian subjects in the age group of 18-30 years with the view of obtaining a holistic picture of their perspective towards yogurt consumption. The statistically analyzed findings have reconfirmed an emphatic relationship between the subject s attitude towards yogurt and other probiotics, and general health awareness of the subject.
