Diabetic nephropathy is one of the commonest encountered complications in diabetic patients. Evidence suggests that approximately one third to half of patients with diabetes develop renal complications. Albuminuria stands essential for risk stratification and disease progression. Among many markers, cystatin C has emerged as a sensitive and specific predictor of early stage diabetic nephropathy. This study was planned to compare cystatin C and creatinine in evaluation of diabetic patients on development of early stage diabetic nephropathy.
