A question that has gained widespread interest is 'how can learning tasks be structured to encourage creative thinking in the classroom?' The study reported within this book adopts the stance of drawing upon theories of learning and creativity to encourage creative thinking in the classroom. This book presents a generative framework for creative learning which exists as a design support tool in planning lesson materials for the classroom and the design of educational software. The research reported within this book demonstrates how the framework can be applied through use of a music composition program called SoundScape. The study reported herein focuses upon explicitly supporting the preparation phase of the creative process using educational technology. A secondary focus is upon the use of visual metaphors for learning. Findings are reported in terms of their implications for educational practice. This is an informative read for educators at all levels.
