The purpose of this study was to investigate the occurrence of confabulation in traumatic brain injury at different levels of cognitive functioning (according to the Rancho Los Amigos Levels of Cognitive Functioning) and to determine whether confabulation could be quantified. Participants were asked a series of questions in an interview format. Their responses were analyzed using a rating scale on the Sacramento Assessment of Confabulation (SAC, Boles, unpublished). Analysis revealed a significant relationship between confabulation and level of cognitive functioning.
