Wenping Cao (Senior Member, IEEE) received the B.Eng. degree in electrical engineering from Beijing Jiaotong University, Beijing, China, in 1991, and the Ph.D. degree in electrical machines and drives from the University of Nottingham, Nottingham, U.K., in 2004.,He is currently a Chair Professor of Electrical Power Engineering and the Head of the Power Electronics, Machines, and Power System Group, Aston University, Birmingham, U.K. He received the Royal Society Wolfson Research Merit Award, U.K., the Innovator of the Year Award from Newcastle University, U.K., in 2013, the Best Paper Award from the 2013 International Symposium on Linear Drives for Industry Applications, and the Dragon's Den Competition Award from Queen's University Belfast, U.K., in 2014. He was a Semifinalist with the Annual MIT-CHIEF Business Plan Contest, USA, in 2015. He is also the Chairman of the Industrial Electronics Society, the IEEE U.K., and the Ireland Sections. He also serves as an Editor for the IEEE Transactions on Power Electronics, the IEEE Transactions on Industry Applications, IEEE Industry Applications Magazine, the IET Power Electronics, and the Electric Power Components and Systems. He is also a chief editor for five special issues and four books.
