This article is a contribution to the reflection on the problem of transhumance in Togo in a participatory and peaceful perspective. It is interested in analyzing the causes, manifestations and social representations related to this phenomenon, which is becoming increasingly perverse in several localities of the country. The study carried out among 440 people selected on the basis of a reasoned choice in the prefectures of Kpendjal, South Oti, Sotouboua, Avé, Haho, Tchaoudjo, Tchamba and Zio made it possible to show that the deep-rooted causes of the violence recorded in Togo concerning transhumance depend essentially on factors ranging from non-observance of the rules of entry into the national territory In addition to the voluntary practices of destroying agricultural products, the aggressive behavior of transhumant herders towards indigenous populations and the disrespect of the local social order.
