The situation of women in Chad is one of limited empowerment, fueled by a very low level of education and limited access to property. In Chad, the situation of girls and women is complex and presents significant challenges. 1 in 5 women report being a victim of physical violence in Chad, 12% of women experience sexual violence each year. In recent years, the situation in Sahel countries has deteriorated due to recurring threats in which peace and development dividends are undermined by violent extremism, resource conflicts, the impact of forced displacement and illicit trafficking of people, drugs, goods and weapons, as well as irregular migration. Women, who represent more than 53% of the population of Chad, are the most affected by the conflicts. They are faced with existential questions which are access to basic social services and access to resources for their empowerment as well as equitable access to their rights.
