Dr. Spero T. Lappas is an author, educator, lawyer, and artist headquartered in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania. He was among the nation's youngest attorneys to be named in the first edition of The Best Lawyers in America and was later recognized in Who's Who in American Law, Who's Who in the World, Who's Who in America, America's Leading Lawyers, and The Bar Register of Pre-Eminent Lawyers. He served as lead counsel in hundreds of major cases, including some of Central Pennsylvania's most important trials. He received the Doctor of Philosophy (American Studies) from the Pennsylvania State University where he was a University Graduate Fellow, the Juris Doctor (cum laude) from the Dickinson School of Law where he was a member of the Editorial Board of the Dickinson Law Review and the National Trial Moot Court Team, and the Bachelor of Arts (cum laude) from Allegheny College. At Dickinson, he won two American Jurisprudence Awards and was later named to the Woolsack Society. At Allegheny, he was twice named an Alden Scholar; he received Departmental Honors at graduation, and won the Muhlfinger Prize for his independent research. He served on the state advisory committees to study the causes of wrongful convictions and Pennsylvania's death penalty, as well as numerous directors' boards of private and non-profit organizations. He has also held faculty positions at Penn State, the Widener University School of Law, Messiah College, and Harrisburg Area Community College. He is a frequent academic guest lecturer, legal educator, and community speaker. A prize-winning photographer, his artistic work has appeared in many solo exhibits, as well as in gallery shows, charity auctions, and private and corporate collections. His earlier publications have appeared in Dickinson Law Review, The Champion (the journal of the National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers), the Harrisburg Patriot-News (including a tenure as community columnist), The Burg, The Pennsylvania Magazine of History and Biography, and The Encyclopedia of American Studies. He co-authored a chapter in Wrongful Convictions and Miscarriages of Justice: Causes and Remedies in North American and European Criminal Justice Systems, and contributed to The Encyclopedia of American Studies and Youth Cultures in America. He has two children, Dr. Thom Lappas and Attorney Alexandria Lappas, and one grandchild, Spero Edward Lappas. Conquer Life's Frontiers is his first book.
