The classic, first-ever, choose-your-own-style interactive book from 1930, Consider the Consequences lets you decide what the characters do--and who they end up with! Play as a party game, or read on your own, and navigate the lives & fates of main characters Helen Rogers, charming young rake Jed Harrington, and dependable, devoted Saunders Mead--through 43 different endings! The course of life--and true love--never did run smooth, but now you have only yourself to blame. No more throwing books across the room in frustration at the naïve, hasty, or downright dumb decisions made by the protagonist--this time you're in charge! In the first pages of this groundbreaking book, written by two brilliant women far ahead of their time, we meet Helen--young, beautiful, excited about exploring the big, wide world--and the 2 men who love her. Jed Harrington is wealthy and adored by all, but seems determined not to work a day in his life, and has already been engaged. . . twice! The hardworking Saunders Mead thinks the world of Helen and would surely treat her kindly, but is as dull as he is dependable. Which suitor will Helen choose? Or perhaps she'll choose neither? It's all up to you! And it's only the 1st decision you'll make in this surprisingly realistic and progressive book written almost 100 years ago. After deciding Helen's fate, readers also get to navigate through the dilemmas and crises facing Jed and Saunders to each of their different endings!

Autorenporträt
Doris Webster (1885-1967) and Mary Alden Hopkins (1876-1960) co-authored a series of pioneering party books throughout the 1920s and 30s. Alongside her writing work, Doris was a director of the Rider Press, while Mary was a journalist and activist who campaigned for women's suffrage in the United States. Together they wrote Consider the Consequences, which in 1930 became the world's first-ever interactive gamebook.
