Considerations On The Polity Of Entails In A Nation is a book written by John Dalrymple in 1765. In this book, Dalrymple explores the concept of entails, which refers to the legal practice of restricting the inheritance of property to a specific line of descendants. He argues that this practice has both positive and negative effects on society, and that the balance between these effects depends on the specific circumstances of each nation.Dalrymple begins by discussing the history of entails in England and Scotland, and how they have evolved over time. He then explores the economic and social effects of entails, arguing that they can be beneficial in promoting family stability and preventing the fragmentation of large estates. However, he also notes that entails can have negative effects on the economy by limiting the mobility of property and preventing the development of new industries.Throughout the book, Dalrymple emphasizes the importance of balancing the benefits and drawbacks of entails in order to create a stable and prosperous society. He also argues that the specific policies surrounding entails should be tailored to the unique circumstances of each nation, rather than being applied uniformly across all societies.Overall, Considerations On The Polity Of Entails In A Nation is a thoughtful and nuanced exploration of a complex legal and social issue. It offers valuable insights into the history and effects of entails, and provides a framework for thinking about how to balance competing interests in society. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations.
