Velma Pollard is the former senior lecturer in language education and dean of the faculty of education at the University of the West Indies. She is the author of Considering Woman, Crown Point and Other Poems, Dread Talk: The Language of the Rastafari, Leaving Traces, and Shame Trees Don't Grow Here.
