Delay claims are extremely complex and difficult to resolve for this reason building construction projects requires an effective and reliable method to minimize the cause and effect of construction delay. This study tries to assess the causes and the level of time extension of building construction projects, the impacts of delay in terms of time and money and to aid construction professionals who are involved to better understand the causes of delays, to recommend practices, procedures, and methods that can be used to avoid delays in pre-construction and during the construction phase of building projects and to mitigate their impacts and associated costs in Mizan-Tepi University building projects in the past four years.

Engineer Belachew Asteray has obtained his M.Sc. degree in Civil Engineering (Construction Management) in March 2011. Since then he has worked as a Director of Mizan-Tepi University Construction Directorate and also as a Lecturer in COTM Department. He is the member of the Ethiopian Construction Technology and Management Professionals Association.
