Contemporary Afghan literature has been built around Persian-speaking linguistic identification and literary heritage. The feeling of belonging has strongly influenced Afghan writers, and has contributed to their drawing inspiration from the Persian-speaking cultural and traditional heritage. Today, this new and little-known literature reflects and promotes a plural identity, open to the fundamental questions of writing and art. Literature and language, particularly that of writers in exile, are rich in intercultural and intertextual references. The collective memory of Afghans is built around intertextuality, bilingualism and myth.
