Changes in development and patients'/clients' needs challenges nurses to keep up-to-date with knowledge and skills that will enable them to meet and supersede these goals. This emphasizes the necessity for nurses participation in continuing professional development activities in order to effectively deal with the health care demands. Professional development refers to a constant commitment to maintain specific skills levels and career progression that ensures that nurses skills and knowledge are current and relevant for addressing patients or clients needs. There are clear documented professional guidelines for needs assessment as a foundation for CPD, evidence of needs analysis in the current nursing literature is limited. The author has highlighted nurses' practice, perceptions and needs in relation to their participation in continuing professional development. This book targets nurses and all stakeholders involved in designing and implementing continuing professional development programmes.
