Further, while discussing social change, the book also examines the prevailing inter and intra-tribal variation in the degree and extent of change and the level of development among the tribes. Tha book altogether consists of six chapters. The first two chapters give a theoretical framework of the study and geographical background of Guwahati city. The third, fourth and fifth chapters discusses the prevailing demographic, social and economic characteristics and the pattern of social change among the tribal people of the city. Finally, a synthesis of the whole work including a few suggestions have been presented in chapter six.

Madhushree Das, M.Phil.,Ph.D. is an Assistant Professor in Geography Department, Gauhati University, Guwahati. Her fields of interest include social, gender and tribal geography. She has presented papers in a number of national and international seminars and has published a number of research papers.
