Hedging as linguistic expressions plays an important role in newspapers texts, in spoken contexts and also in scientific research articles (RAs). The existence of hedging expressions is necessary for articles to convey vagueness and tentativeness to make sentence more acceptable to the hearer and reader. The lack of They causes many problems in academic writings for describing methods and results, discussing findings, persuading readers, and establishing interpersonal relations between readers and writers. This book is conducted to examine the hedging phenomenon in different sections of English and Persian linguistics research articles RAs based on Varttala (2001) and Hyland (1996, 2000) taxonomies. Moreover, many of authors have many problems in writing a text and conveying the hedging words from other languages into their texts. These problems become bigger when some of hedging words in one language are not hedge expressions in another one. So writers should take this point into consideration when they want to prepare academic writings. In this book, not only hedging forms examine, but also hedging function study which refers to the writer's intention in using the hedging forms.
