In intensive care, we are confronted with the need to place venous catheters in emergency situations. Although the femoral site is preferred, it remains difficult to manipulate in the case of abdomino-pelvic surgery or in the prone position. Moreover, it does not allow a diagnostic approach to be developed. The echo-guided internal jugular vein appears to be quicker to insert and requires fewer punctures. It could therefore be an alternative to the femoral route in an emergency situation.
