Controlled release drug delivery is a new way to treat many diseases. Control release drug delivery system requires drug binder or drug carrier. Protein, Peptides, Natural polysaccharide, chitosan, guar gum, cellulose and starch & their derivatives are useful as a drug binder. Guar gum is a glactomannan and derived from Guar seeds. Guar gum was carboxymethylated by different methods homogeneous system, heterogeneous systems, using Friedal craft reaction and solvent free system. To extend its application second modification of GG was carried out by cross-linking and grafting method. Synthesized derivatives were characterized by FTIR, TGA and SEM. Synthesized derivatives were used in pharmaceutical formulation as binder. Paracetamol and ibuprofen were selected as model drug. Prepared tablets were evaluated for hardness, friability, uniformity of weight, uniformity of drug content. The tablets found comparative results with the commercially available formulations of both paracetamoland ibuprufen.
