The increased use of the electricity has given rise request for stable power providing and stable voltage. In an interconnected power system, power is being exchanged between areas over interconnecting tie lines. The desired objectives in this book are designing the area Load Frequency Control (LFC) to have some degree of control over tie-line power flow and frequency of individual areas as well as to keep the voltage over it using Automatic Voltage Regulator (AVR) in stable and suitable value. It is important to properly design the area LFC and AVR to improve both the system quality and reliability delivered to consumers. In the actual power systems, there exists nonlinearities such as parameters variations and generation rate constraint for generating units; so the work has been considered them. Accordingly, control obtained for LFC as well as AVR based on Particle Swarm Optimization are proposed, since those techniques are capable of dealing with nonlinear models. This study proposes both I and PID controllers for load frequency control and voltage control using various types of evolutionary computation techniques. They are intensively used to tune the proposed controllers.
