The strategies and sectors prioritized by the STI policies of Brazil and Japan are compared with the actions and areas in which bilateral cooperation was carried out. Increased mutual knowledge, greater participation by the private sector, and improved engagement by representatives of the academic and governmental spheres in bilateral mechanisms are the paths indicated for balancing interests in increasing cooperation in S&T&I between Brazil and Japan, the realization of which could have a positive impact on Brazilian development.
