Wulf Rehder hat ein paar Semester lang alte Sprachen studiert, dann Physik und Mathematik, in der er auch promoviert hat. Statt Geld zu verdienen, ging er als Stipendiat der Studienstiftung nach Berkeley und studierte danach für zwei Jahre Japanisch in Bonn und Tokio. Es folgte eine anregende Zeit als Assistent an der TU Berlin. Von 1981 bis 1986 war er Professor der Mathematik in Kalifornien. Mehrere Positionen als Manager in Technologie-Firmen im Silicon Valley wurden unterbrochen von einem zweijährigen abenteuerlichen Aufenthalt in Pisa, Italien. Nach 32 Jahren im Ausland wird er gerade wieder heimisch in der deutschen Sprache.
