There are a lot of sustainability challenges to the oil and gas sector. Sustainability is a relatively "new" concept with no common agreed upon definition. According to the Brundtland Commission Report sustainable development is "development that meets the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs". This definition is indicating that sustainable development is a long term concept. The notion of sustainability is also highly related to corporate responsibility, which is a way for corporations to achieve sustainability.
