This interdisciplinary 4-volume major work brings together the most significant papers from the body of literature on corporate sustainability, drawing from a wide range of research journals. The introductory chapter written by the major work's editors explores the highlights of the literature therein and identifies directions for future research. Thomas P. Lyon holds the Dow Chair of Sustainable Science, Technology and Commerce at the University of Michigan, with appointments in both the Ross School of Business and the School of Natural Resources and Environment. From 2006-2011 he served as Director of UM's Erb Institute for Global Sustainable Enterprise. Professor Lyon is a leader in using economic analysis to understand corporate environmental strategy and how it is shaped by emerging government regulations, non-governmental organizations, and consumer demands. His book Corporate Environmentalism and Public Policy, published by Cambridge University Press, is the first rigorous economic analysis of this increasingly important topic. Professor Lyon earned his bachelor's degree at Princeton University and his doctorate at Stanford University. He has been a visitor at the University of Chicago, Scuola Sant'Anna, Resources for the Future, the University of Bonn, Georgetown University, the University of California, Santa Barbara, the Antitrust Division of the U.S. Department of Justice and the University of Paris. Professor Lyon serves on the editorial boards of the Journal of Economics and Management Strategy and the Journal of Regulatory Economics. His current research focuses on corporate environmental information disclosure, greenwash, and voluntary programs for environmental improvement. Daniel Diermeier is the IBM Professor of Regulation and Competitive Practice in the Department of Managerial Economics and Decision Sciences and the Director of the Ford Motor Company Center for Global Citizenship at the Kellogg School of Management. In addition, he holds faculty appointments at the Department of Political Science, the Department of Economics, the Department of Linguistics and the School of Law, all at Northwestern University. He also serves as the Director of the Kellogg Public-Private Initiative, one of the four major strategic initiatives of the school. Professor Diermeier is a member of the American Academy of Arts & Sciences and the 2007 recipient of the Faculty Pioneer Award from the Aspen Institute. He has won 13 teaching awards including the 2001 Kellogg Lavengood Professor of the Year Award and the 2013 Kellogg Alumni Professor of the Year award. His teaching and research focuses on political institutions, the interaction of business and politics, crisis leadership, reputation management, and strategic aspects of corporate social responsibility. He has published two books, 40 case studies, and over 80 research articles in academic journals mostly in the fields of economics, political science, management, but also in other areas ranging from linguistics and psychology to computer science and applied mathematics. Professor Diermeier has advised many of the world's leading companies. He is the academic director of the CEO Perspectives Program and the Chairman and Co-Founder of the Northwestern Global Health Foundation, winner of the 2012 Chicago "Up-and Comer" Innovation Award. He is a research fellow at the Canadian Institute of Advanced Research (CIFAR) and a member of the Economic Club of Chicago. Glen Dowell is Associate Professor of Management and Organizations at the Samuel L. Curtis Johnson Graduate School of Management at Cornell University. He is also a faculty member at Johnson's Center for Sustainable Global Enterprise. Professor Dowell studies the interaction of firms with their natural, institutional, and competitive environments, and his work has been published in journals such as Strategic Management Journal, Management Science, Organization Studies, Organization Science, Journal of Management, and Industrial and Corporate Change. He is on the editorial board of Organization Science, Strategic Management Journal, and Administrative Science Quarterly. He teaches sustainable business courses at the MBA and EMBA level and also teaches electives in both global business and organizational change. Professor Dowell earned his Bachelor of Commerce degree from the University of Alberta, MBA from McGill University, and Ph.D. from the University of Michigan.
