Metatarsal wounds are a very common location for skin breakdown which can then lead to significant bone infection. There are many complications and risks related to foot osteomyelitis which is why this study was performed. By using an MRI pre-operatively, we were able to measure the amount of osetomyelitis along the metatarsal. Creating a metatarsal resection protocol was crucial in order to improve excision of all bone infection. Hopefully, this surgical protocol can serve as a guide to future surgeons dealing with severe bone infection in the foot and overall improve rates of post-operative osteomyelitis recurrence.
