James Gibson was born and raised in Texas. He completed his theological studies at Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Fort Worth. He served as pastor at three churches in central Texas before founding Church by the Lake on Lake Brownwood, where he served as spiritual leader for twenty-six years.
