A study of late 20thc Muslim intelligentsia. It argues for the need to rethink the study of Islam as a field of academic inquiry.
Featuring prominent thinkers from across the Muslim world, Cosmopolitans and Heretics presents a global perspective on contemporary Islamic intellectual history. In tracing the roots of present-day Islamic thinking, the author unearths the surprisingly diverse origins of the progressive and often provocative ideas expounded by various cosmopolitan Muslim intellectuals of the late 20th and early 21th century.
