The optimization is divided into two parts. a) Design optimization b) process optimization. The problem that we have considered here is process optimization which will be difficult but is of great help to reduce the cost of turning machining process. In this we use four different optimization methods for cutting parameters, for turning of mild steel. The key parameters are cutting speed and feed. Modern optimization methods, among which genetic algorithm (GA) have been used a lot during last two decades. This project describes the optimization of machining processes by using Cuckoo Search, Firefly, Flower Pollination and Pattern Search. Optimal parameters of machining (cutting speed and feed) were determined. Also, minimal cost for the turning process
