The elders, Grazmach and Bashay were neighbors, friends and eventually business partners. When they felt it was time to retire, they gave the responsibility of running their joint establishment to their first-borns, Tesfom and Habtom. This opened the way for these two protagonists to be co-workers, partners and eventually neighbors and even God fathers to each other's child. As a result, their spouses and their children became very close friends and confidants. After a few successful years, Tesfom and Habtom fell into disagreement, rivalry and enmity, which in turn brought havoc upon their two family's relationships. In the first book, "Rivalry between Tesfom & Habtom," we have witnessed how the diametrically opposite characters and nature of these two protagonists led to the rupture of their relationship and those of their families. The events that followed resulted in accidents, disability, crime, court litigation, imprisonment and a lot of unhappiness and agony. The story, with its avalanche of events continued for 21 years from 1952 to 1973. Unfortunately, these sad tragedies were not the only results of the rivalry and obduracy of the main protagonists. They were only the tip of the ice berg and the precursors of further suffering and tragedy. This sequel, "Covenant between Medhn & Alganesh," shows how the protagonists, instead of learning from their grave mistakes, continued along their self-destructive paths. As a result, they and their families were challenged with mental infirmity, physical disability and eventually tragedy and death. They were also subjected to unforeseen events that threatened the very foundation of their existence. The first book's narrative ended before we knew what would happen to the protagonists, Tesfom and Habtom; the wives, Medhn, Alganesh and Almaz and the children and lovers, Bruk and Kbret. The novel will not only gradually reveal how the main victims of the protagonists are their innocent spouses and children, but will also graphically illustrate their struggles, suffering and victories. "Covenant between Medhn & Alganesh," is: The story of the thoughtfulness, unbounded love, wisdom, resilience, self-sacrifice and covenant of the mothers and the story of love, agony, heartbreak and the sacrifice of the youngsters and the intriguing saga that unfolds. It is also the story of the wisdom, and of the exemplary role of some of the elders, and their pivotal function in all life situations, as guide and stabilizing force in times of greatest adversity. The second book, "Covenant between Medhn & Alganesh," covers another eight years from 1973-1981 and will take us towards the end of this cliff hanging, intriguing and tantalizing story. I wish you enjoyable reading and a memorable journey.
