Delores Lowe Friedman, Ed. D., is professor of early childhood education at Kingsborough Community College of the City University of New York, where she teaches courses in early childhood education and curriculum, and supervises student field experience. Dr. Friedman was honored by the Chancellor of the City University of New York as the recipient of three major institutional grants: one from the National Science Foundation for the preparation of pre-service teachers in science education; a Goals 2000 grant for the professional development of teachers in New York City public schools; and a Workforce Development grant for the career development of teachers in early care and education. She is the author of numerous children�s books as well as scholarly articles in journals such as the Journal of College Science Teaching, and Young Children, the Journal of the National Association for the Education of Young Children. She holds a doctorate from Teachers College, Columbia University, where she has served as the President of the Teachers College Alumni Council. She has also served as Associate in the Office of Parent Education, Child and Student Development Services, New York State Education Department. She holds New York State Certification as Superintendent of Schools. She has been a consultant to the New York City Department of Education�s Early Childhood and Elementary Education Office, many school districts in the greater New York area, and Bank Street College. Her professional affiliations include the National Association for the Education of Young Children, The National Science Teachers Association, and the Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development.
