A couple of years ago I used several AI tools (GPT and its ilk) to generate their versions of "creative" writing. I asked for poems, plays, short stories, and other snippets in between the short story, the novella, and opening salvos of the novel genre. This book is a return to that past exploration of what AI can and cannot do in the way of producing various kinds of "creative writing." In this book, I offer GPT 4.o and Copilot a chance to show their stuff. To do this, I provided each AI tool the same list of 20 of my own plot lines-created with little thought or artistry on my part. It was more of a fast plot mind dump than not. >I wanted to see if the output was markedly richer in key ways one associates with creative writing across the genres I focused on. In short, I was looking for their ability to offer thematic development, characterization, use of literary devices such as irony, foreshadowing, humor, dramatization, motive development, surprise in plot development, et al.) The book is organized to let each AI engine show its stuff by addressing each of the 20 plot lines and producing for each an original short story, one act play, poem, and opening chapter of a novel. Both AI engines were permitted to create their own titles and both were totally free to create all content in any manner they deemed appropriate to what I asked of them. As for the quality of what both engines produced, I leave that up to the readers of this book-if there are any! >One final comment: the AI images generated by OpenArt are much advanced over my former experiences using DALL-E v3. In this realm alone the AI boys and girls have made much progress-which is both good and bad!
