Critical Pedagogy in Christian Education presents itself differently than in general education. Bower traces the philosophical frameworks of Critical Theory through philosophy, Christian Education philosophers, and finally five curriculum theorists. In doing so, his work maps the significant but little known field of educational philosophy. His methodology can be used to map other fields of educational theory and practice, and also demonstrates the complexity in achieving a truly interdisciplinary discourse. The program suggestions in this book can be used to generate meaningful education in a variety of settings. His careful study has produced a useful work for those who seek to better understanding both how and why to do Christian Education, engaging novice and seasoned educators seeking foundations for justice-oriented education.
