Many anarchists reject the need for a transitory state phase. Some thinkers have rejected the fundamentals of Marxist theory, such as historical materialism and the labor theory of value, and gone on to criticize capitalism - and advocate socialism - using other arguments. Racist attitudes have been identified in works by Marx and Engels including claims of certain nations being at a higher level of civilization than others, and claims thatcertain races, such as Slavs were uncivilized, traitors, and enemies of proletarian revolution.
