El Dr. Amit Tomar (nacido en 1987) procede de una familia de agricultores del oeste de Uttar Pradesh (pueblo de Hathchhoya, Tehsil de Unn, distrito de Shamli). Se licenció en Agricultura y obtuvo un máster y un doctorado en Genética y Fitomejoramiento en la Universidad Chandra Shekhar Azad de Agricultura y Tecnología de Kanpur.
