The researchers tackle the complex early history of the region, deciphering patterns of migration, the interactions between island inhabitants, and the fate of indigenous groups after European contact. The multidisciplinary approach includes contributions from archaeology, physical anthropology, environmental archaeology, paleobotany, linguistics, and ethnohistory.
