Nation's knowledge of its history is crucial for everybody. For us, being a splinter of people with a multi-millenary history, this is particularly important. According to some foreign scholars the Danube and the Black Sea basins could be the cradle of the European civilization. Among the European cultures a special place belongs to Cucuteni civilization which extended over an area of about 350,000 km2 from Ariusd (in the west) to Tripoli (Kiev). Cucuteni tribes have created the splendid and original works of decorated ceramics and left masterpieces of figurine art, no less remarkable. A brief analysis shows that the current territory of Moldova is geographically right in the middle of this civilization. So it can be concluded with some degree of approximation that the current territory of Moldova could have been the center of this wonderful culture. To make as known as possible this old civilization several universities in Romania and Moldova, social organizations, cultural centers, have been engaged in organizing the Symposium "Cucuteni 5000 REDIVIVUS: Exact and Less Exact Sciences" at the initiative of Prof. Dr. eng., Lorin Cantemir, Technical University "Gh. Asachi" of Iasi.
