In addition to the knowledge economy and the concept of smart destinations, the book addresses new modes of tourism management and development, as well as emerging technologies, including location-based services, the Internet of things, smart cities, mobile services, gamification, digital collections and the virtual visitor, social media, social networking, and augmented reality.

Autorenporträt
Vicky Katsoni is Associate Professor at the Tourism Management Department of the University of West Athens, Greece, and she is also teaching at the Greek Open University. She has published 12 books on tourism, chapters in edited volumes, and numerous papers in highly academic journals. She is the president of the non-profit "International Association of Cultural and Digital Tourism" (IACuDiT) and a member of the Editorial Board of many scientific journals in tourism and marketing. Ciná van Zyl has been active in the last 3 decades either in academic teaching, creating training programs, curricula, and syllabus or in a managing capacity as Head of the Department of Applied Management at the University of South Africa, Pretoria. She is currently a task team member of the College of Economics and Management Sciences Innovation Hub, a registered community engagement project empowering small-medium enterprises (SMEs) in the community.
