K.J. Stevens is a Michigan-based writer whose work explores themes of loss, love, memory, and perseverance. His fiction is minimalist and emotionally direct, rooted in the small, often overlooked moments that shape us. With a focus on rhythm, restraint, and clarity, Stevens creates stories that ask quiet but enduring questions about what it means to keep going. His latest book, DEVOTION, is a collection of short stories that follows characters navigating life's most intimate and difficult terrain--grief, distance, failure, parenthood, marriage, addiction, and memory. With stripped-back prose and deeply human insight, the stories examine how we hold on, how we let go, and how we survive the quiet ache that often lives between those two things. Stevens draws inspiration from the working-class landscapes, weather, and emotional isolation of Northern Michigan. His writing is concerned with the weight of ordinary days, and the resilience required to live them well. It shows that good fiction doesn't need to shout to be heard. His debut novella, Black, was published by RedRaw Press. His work has appeared in Great Lakes Review, Temenos, The Adirondack Review, and BloodLotus.
