This book investigates how to make swarms of autonomous vehicles, operated and maintained by a third party, available to inexperienced users. The key idea is the strict separation of operating unmanned vehicle swarms and performing information acquisition missions. To achieve this, this work applies the paradigm of cloud computing to virtualized versions of unmanned vehicles. The implemented Platform-as-a-Service (PaaS) system allows the simulation of multi-customer information acquisition missions as well as their execution on real hardware running the Robot Operating System (ROS).
