John Bandler is an attorney and consultant who helps businesses, financial institutions, professionals, and individuals with cybersecurity, information security, cybercrime investigations, traditional investigations, anti-fraud, compliance, governance, and other areas. He is the founder of Bandler Law Firm PLLC and Bandler Group LLC. John has expertise in many subjects, holds a number of certifications, and is a prolific writer and speaker. He is the author of Cybersecurity for the Home and Office, published by the American Bar Association, articles on topics such as information security, cybercrime, identity theft, and money laundering, and a forthcoming book on cybercrime investigations. He teaches law, graduate, and undergraduate courses on cybersecurity, cybercrime, physical security, law, and more. Before entering private practice John served in government for more than 20 years, first in the New York State Police as a trooper in one of the state's busiest stations, providing full police services to the local community. After law school, he was hired by the legendary Robert Morgenthau as an assistant district attorney in the New York County District Attorney's Office. While there, John prosecuted international cybercrime, virtual currency money laundering, identity theft, and street crimes. One notable case secured the extradition and conviction of international cybercriminals as well as U.S. based identity thieves, proving at trial global trafficking of stolen data, money laundering (using both virtual currencies and traditional payments), and massive theft. John brings these skills and experience to the private sector, where he now helps organizations and individuals navigate today's risks.
