This book is an effort to introduce the reader to the field of cybersecurity, highlight current issues and challenges, and provide future directions to mitigate or resolve them. The main areas of cybersecurity covered in this book are software security, hardware security, evolution of malware, biometrics, cyber intelligence, and cyber forensics. We must learn from the past, evolve our present and improve the future. Based on this objective, the book covers the past, present, and future of these main areas of cybersecurity. The book also examines the upcoming areas of research in cyber intelligence, such as hybrid augmented and explainable artificial intelligence (AI). Interpreting and explaining machine learning models, i.e., explainable AI is an emerging field of study and hasa lot of potential in improving the role of AI in cybersecurity. The text of the book is both at an introductory and at an advanced academic level.

Shahid Alam lavora attualmente come professore assistente presso il dipartimento di Ingegneria informatica dell'Università di Scienza e Tecnologia di Adana Alparsalan Turkes, in Turchia. Ha conseguito il dottorato di ricerca in Informatica presso l'Università di Victoria, Canada. I suoi interessi di ricerca includono l'ingegneria del software, i linguaggi di programmazione e la sicurezza informatica.
