Tom Blackburn is a cellist and geochemist. He holds degrees from Carleton College and Harvard University, and has held faculty positions or visiting professorships at Carleton, Hobart, St. Andrews, and Wellesley Colleges, and Cornell, Harvard, Indiana and St. Andrews (Scotland) Universities, and the University of Tennessee. He has published short fiction in Cairn, Crucible, Exquisite Corpse, and The Saint Andrews Review, as well as nonfiction books on chemistry and grantseeking. Dancing With Granny is the fifth novel in the Hap Maryland series. He is a member of The American Association for the Advancement of Science, The Geochemical Society, and the Dumbarton Chamber Players. He lives in Washington DC with his wife, the poet Kate Blackburn, and two reliable dogs.
