"Choice is power, and Coral has none." For nine-year-old Coral, life revolves around her family. Dad says finding the old boarding house in Fitzroy is fortuitous, given war is just around the corner. Coral doesn't know what that word means, only that they're together. But Melbourne in 1940 is anything but predictable, and Coral and her brothers find themselves in the care of the Children's Welfare Department. Separated from her family and classified as a ward of the state, Coral comes of age within a regimented system operating under great strain. To break free, she must reclaim her autonomy while surrounded by the procedures that daily decide her fate. When lies and manipulation arise to destroy her dreams, she calls on her new found determination to recover the child she birthed while in care, and forge a future that goes way beyond childhood wishing. Her plan works... Until a telegram arrives that breaks her heart, but not her resolve. A compelling tale based on actual events from international award-winning author Lisa King.

Autorenporträt
Lisa King has enjoyed a career in health and wellness now for 30 years. Lisa knew that she wanted to be a pharmacist and was strongly encouraged by her family to choose this career path. She was very fortunate to find her life's purpose at a very young age. She graduated from the University of Arizona and delved into pharmacy. At a time, when people were not as aware of their health, Lisa began speaking publicly sharing information on how to effectively manage medications. She has always been a firm believer in taking charge of not only your own health but taking charge of your own destiny. Lisa was rewarded for her efforts outside of the pharmacy by becoming The Distinguished Young Pharmacist of the Year for the state of Arizona within a few years of graduating. As much as Lisa has enjoyed pharmacy, she also completely loves being with her family. She married her husband and high school sweetheart Jeff while she was still in pharmacy school. Shortly afterwards, Lisa became a mom with the birth of her first son, Chad. At this time Lisa balanced being a working mom with times at home with her son. Soon afterwards, a second son, Adam, followed. Lisa thoroughly enjoyed her time as a mom with both of her boys very active in sports and both avid baseball players. As her older boys were heading towards high school, Lisa had another son, Daniel. At this time, Lisa chose to stay home with her children and leave the pharmacy world behind for a bit of time. Lisa fully immersed herself into her new role as a stay at home mom with her boys. She baked, volunteered at their school and her church and watched their games at the baseball field. During this time period, the downturn of 2008 occurred. Lisa's family was hit extremely hard, as were many other Americans. The real estate market crash was the catalyst for change in not only Lisa's lifestyle, but also her mindset. At this time, with her oldest going off to college, and her youngest starting preschool, Lisa knew that she could contribute financially to her family by heading back to the pharmacy. This was a difficult time for Lisa, as she missed being away from her children and she went back to work full time. However; she knew that being a pharmacist had always been her calling in life and she wanted to make the most out of her time in the pharmacy while she was there during the day. As Lisa's life changed, she engaged in self-development. She began purchasing and reading books to lift her spirits and push through this challenging period in her life. These books could be found everywhere with Lisa, and she honestly knew they were the reason she was able to cope with her current situation. At this time, Lisa learned that happiness and the peace and fulfillment she was seeking had to come from within. She realized that she had to change her mindset or nothing would change. She began working on negative thought patterns and word choices that she was using throughout the day. This is when she came up with the mantra "turn it around". These three simple words were a reminder to keep only the thoughts that made her stronger. These words, were given to her by a stranger that to this day has never known how much these 3 words changed Lisa's life.
