Daniel Mannix Petrie was a Canadian television and movie director. Petrie was born in Glace Bay, Nova Scotia, Canada, the son of Mary Anne (née Campbell) and William Mark Petrie, a soft-drink manufacturer. He moved to the United States in 1945. One of his most famous credits was 1961's A Raisin in the Sun, which was nominated for the Golden Palm award at the Cannes Film Festival. He also directed Buster and Billie, Fort Apache, The Bronx and Cocoon: The Return. He produced television movies such as Sybil, Eleanor and Franklin (which he also directed), and a 1999 remake of Inherit the Wind.…mehr
