RICHARD DOUGLAS SPENCE is an associate professor of biology at the University of Texas, Permian Basin. He is the author Andrew Jackson Donelson: Jacksonian and Unionist and an article on John Donelson that appeared in the Tennessee Historical Quarterly. His scientific articles have appeared in Plant Physiology, Annals of Botany, and Agricultural Systems, among many others.
