David Friedrich Strauß (1808 - 1874) ist einer bedeutendsten Religionsphilosophen der Neuzeit. Er verfasste unter anderem: Das Leben Jesu (1835/36), Die christliche Glaubenslehre (1840), Der alte und der neue Glaube (1872), außerdem Biographien über Ulrich von Hutten und Voltaire. Seine Verbindung von Textkritik mit systematischer Theologie beeinflusste auf vielfache Weise die Diskussion.
