A yawning gap between two 1960s buildings. Not at all unusual in Cologne. A gap between two buildings, 2.56 m wide and 33 m long. Scarcely wide enough to park a few bicycles. This gap has been used as an office by the Rendel & Spitz advertising agency since 1999.
As in 2001 and in 2002, during the 2003 Cologne International Furniture Fair three internationally known designers squeezed themselves into the town's best known building between buildings.
This year's designers were Andrea Branzi from Milan as well as Ronan and Erwan Bouroullec from Paris.
The previous projects, "daring the gap" and "expanding the gap" won several international design awards. Greg Lynn's contribution to "expanding the gap" is now part of the design exhibition at the Pinakothek der Moderne in Munich.
