The Walnut Caterpillar Moth (Datana integerrima) is a moth of the Notodontidae family. It is found in eastern North America, from Ontario, through most of the Eastern States west to Minnesota and south to northern Mexico. The wingspan is 35 50 mm. Adults are on wing from May to August. The larvae feed on hickory, pecan, Carya and Juglans species. A moth is an insect closely related to the butterfly, both being of the order Lepidoptera. Moths form the majority of this order; there are thought to be 150,000 to 250,000 different species of moth (about ten times the number of species of butterfly), with thousands of species yet to be described.
