The story is about David and Hannah's love, passion, and devotion to each other. They were seldom apart. The two of them lived on a family farm in Rose Valley on the Eastern Seaboard in 1900. David and Hannah raise two adopted boys, Samuel and Duff, and one girl, Gracie. A pass time for David and Hannah is sitting on a swing on their back porch. Here, they make family decisions and romance. The ancient Rose River and Atlantic Ocean wander through green fields leaving cold crystalline streams. The lowing of cattle fills the fragrant air. Lambs and kids play tag with each other. David and Hannah like to dance on Saturday nights at the nearby Atlantic Side Hotel. They dance to the latest love songs, swing and Jazz. David discovers an old music box in the barn that belonged to his grandparents Eric and Sarah Kil. Now they dance at home, from the service porch, through the kitchen, dining room, and living room. The couple enjoys a late-night supper of bread, chess, and wine in the dining room by candlelight. Hannah wears her bright pink silk off-the-shoulder ball gown. David is handsome in his tuxedo. They like to remember the first time they met on a cold winter afternoon in the village. Hannah had messy hair and her clothes did not fit. David was smelly from working with animals. He was an animal doctor. He built a small animal clinic in a pasture near the barn. He taught Sam and Duff how to care for animals and skills to work on the farm. Hannah taught the children to always have good manners and be on time. In later years, Hannah became ill with pneumonia and her spirit returned to God who gave it to her. David is brokenhearted and never recovers.
